The Awaxaawe Awachia Lodge is pleased to announce that we will be holding a three day summer work shop, Native Summer, August 19-21 at Camp Fife devoted to teaching Native American culture.
We hope that you have marked your calendar and plan on attending the first annual Awaxaawe Awachia Lodge Native Summer this year. It is going to be a three day event chuck-full of Native American culture, learning how to make outfits for ceremony and dance, learning how to do ceremonies, and learning how to dance in one of three dance styles. It’s going to be a great activity and it’s the place to be if you want to learn more about the Native American program that the OA can offer.
- Expert instructors will showcase their knowledge about these things and provide hands on instruction to you on how to do them.
- Each person who attends will come away with a Medicine Bag! Want to learn how to bead it?
- $20 per person. Register.
- The cost covers Medicine Bag materials, beading supplies and all of your meals!
Native Summer is the place to be if you want to learn how to make your own outfit items and improve your dancing and ceremony presentations! Don’t miss out on this opportunity!
Below is a list of recommended items to bring to the activity:
- Bring your out door camping equipment! All participants will be asked to camp outside at this activity unless special medical needs must be met. Make sure to bring a tent, sleeping bag, pillow, blanket, cot, pad or anything else that you normally camp with.
- Bring your outfit! We will be having a powwow and there will be many opportunities for you to use your outfit. Let us see what you’ve got!
- Dress for this activity will include Class B scout uniforms or outfits; please bring enough clothes for two nights of camping.
- Bring your outfit projects that you’ve been working on and never had the chance to finish them. We’ll give you some direction and help in starting or finishing them.
- Bring extra money if you wish to purchase items from the lodge trading post, lodge outfit trading post and from the outfit resource trading post. Please refer to the “Available Crafts and Cost Guide (doc)”.
- Personal sanitation items and medication.

As leaders of youth, we all want our Aaronic Priesthood to serve faithfully in priesthood callings and fulfill the responsibilities of priesthood offices, give meaningful service, prepare and live worthily to receive the Melchizedek Priesthood and temple ordinances, and prepare to serve an honorable full-time mission. Scouting helps young men achieve these goals.
Scouting's national honor society, the Order of the Arrow, can also help achieve these goals by providing youth leadership and service oppertunities. The latest edition of Scouting &The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says this about the organization:
"The Order of the Arrow (OA) is Scouting's national honor society. It supports the teachings of the Church regarding cheerful service and brotherhood. Troops and teams may hold elections for their youth, and adults can be recommended for membership and participate as well. Each troop and team should have an active OA Troop or Team representative. Unit leaders should encourage all Arrowmen to stay active in their lodge."

My Brothers
You guys rock! A few things I'd like to emphasize this year is brotherhood. We are a BROTHERHOOD, and a national HONOR SOCIETY. We need to remember this to become more unified and a stronger lodge. We need to remember the key points of brotherhood, to show people what an honor society is all about. We can't do this unless we become more unified. We also need to remember the leaders of our past and good examples they have shown us, keep the positives going and build off them and lets throw out the negative.
I look forward to a great year with all you brothers. Lets show everyone what our lodge is all about.
Yours in WWW
Matt Ferrin |

On January 22nd and 23rd, the lodge got together for a weekend of fun. It started out with a pow-wow and games and ended the presentation of awards and honors to arrowmen and chapters who have made a difference and gave extra service over the last year. There were also some changes made to the organization of the lodge.
The youth elected a new lodge chief and Lodge Officers. The new chief is Matt Ferrin. Matt was previously a lodge vice-chief. He is from chapter 5 and lives in Mountain Green. His vice-chiefs are Justin Deakin, Charles Bowker, Michael Young, Tyler Young, and Carter Wright.
Along with new youth officers, the lodge has a new lodge adviser, Ken Jeppesen. Ken previously served as the Section Adviser for section W2S but has served in many other positions in the Order of the Arrow and scouting.
We'd like to send a special thanks to all those who helped make this years Founder's Festival a success!! We'd also like to thank Charles Bowker and all the the 2009 lodge officers for the great job they did and for the service they provided to the Lodge. We would also like to thank Dennis Stockberger for his service over the last several years as Lodge Adviser.
Thank you all for coming and supporting the lodge!!
